Slope threshold for overland flow resistance on sandy soils

چکیده
Recent research on rill flows recognised that an 18% slope can be used to distinguish between ‘gentle’ and ‘steep’ cases for the detected differences in hydraulic (flow depth velocity) sediment transport variables capacity, actual load). The effects of flow velocity, friction factor capacity their interactions affect process-based erosion modelling. main aim this paper is investigate, first time, how affects overland resistance sandy soils, which are characterised by loose particles readily available transported deposited. Using literature measurements carried out soils both gentle steep slopes, a theoretical equation, based integration power velocity distribution, tested. relationship profile parameter Γ, channel slope, Reynolds Froude number calibrated using characterized wide range conditions distinguishing (5.2%–13.2%) (17.4%–42.3%) conditions. analysis demonstrated that: (1) Γ accurately estimated Equation (15) exponents independent condition; (2) coefficient equal 0.8750 0.8984 condition, respectively; (3) estimations Darcy–Weisbach f (Equation 19) accurate errors less than or ±5% 97.2% cases; (4) law condition (19) with = 0.8750) systematically overestimates value. In conclusion, study allowed recognition, unlimited soil detachment flow, energy dissipation processes estimate affected slope. Highlights A tested data obtained soils. Differences investigated. accurate. slopes slopes.

Slope traversal controls for planetary exploration rover on sandy terrain
In this paper, two control approaches are presented for exploration rovers traversing sandy-sloped terrain. One of the proposed controls is a model-based feed-forward control using a characteristic diagram, called a Thrust-cornering characteristic diagram. It consists of various characteristic curves of wheel forces for varied wheel slip conditions. An appropriate steering maneuver for slope tr...
متن کاملAn environmental threshold for degree of phosphorus saturation in sandy soils.
There is critical need for a practical indicator to assess the potential for phosphorus (P) movement from a given site to surface waters, either via surface runoff or subsurface drainage. The degree of phosphorus saturation (DPS), which relates a measure of P already adsorbed by a soil to its P adsorption capacity, could be a good indicator of that soil's P release capability. Our primary objec...
متن کاملHydrostatic compression model for sandy soils
Based on elastic considerations, a new four parameter model of the hydrostatic compression curves of sandy soils is presented. Using a unique set of parameters, this model is capable of accurately representing the infinite family of compression curves that result when soil is subjected to stresses below particle breakage. The parameters are readily estimated from two hydrostatic tests conducted...
متن کاملExperiments on sediment deposition by overland flow
Experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of sediment concentration, slope and discharge on sediment deposition rates and patterns associated with a reduction in bed slope. Analysis of the data shows that up to a certain unit discharge a simple settling equation without a transport term gives a good prediction of the sediment delivery ratio and the grain-size distribution of the depo...
